Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of EB Medicine and CaboFest CME. EB Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation: EB Medicine designates the main course of this live activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and the post-conference workshops for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Needs Assessment: The need for this educational activity was determined by a survey of medical faculty, review of evaluations from previous conferences, and a practice gap analysis.

Target Audience: This live conference is designed for emergency physicians, physicians in primary care, nurse practitioners and physician assistants working in ambulatory and emergent care settings.

Goals: The purpose of this activity is to provide attendees with current evidence-based practice information, specifically in the areas of emergency critical care, point-of-care ultrasound, advanced airway management, and resuscitation.

Objectives: Upon completion of this activity, you should be able to: (1) understand the limitations of using steroids in septic shock, identify which patients should be considered for steroid use, and describe the circumstances in which it would be best to avoid steroid use in resuscitation and septic shock; (2) perform an ultrasound guided block in a safe and effective manner; (3) increase ability to act efficiently, quickly, and effectively when managing an unstable patient with penetrating chest trauma; and (4) use oxygen appropriately prior to and during rapid sequence intubation, incorporate apneic oxygenation as part of standard RSI preparation and practice, and prevent desaturation and hypoxemia during attempts at oxygenation.

Faculty Disclosure: It is the policy of EB Medicine to ensure objectivity, balance, independence, transparency, and scientific rigor in all CME-sponsored educational activities. All faculty participating in the planning or implementation of a sponsored activity are expected to disclose to the audience any relevant financial relationships and to assist in resolving any conflict of interest that may arise from the relationship. In compliance with all ACCME Essentials, Standards, and Guidelines, all faculty for this CME activity were asked to complete a full disclosure statement. The information received is as follows: Dr. Avila, Dr. Dawson, Dr. Mallemat, Dr. Mallin, Dr. Sloas, and their related parties report no significant financial interest or other relationship with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) discussed in this educational presentation.

Commercial Support: Mindray and Terason have donated the ultrasound equipment. Storz has donated the airway equipment.
